PTFE - A material with infinite possibilities
Leading through professionalism
Polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE for short, is one of the most efficient plastics of all thanks to its enormously long molecular chain. Its outstanding properties enable the manufacture of an almost limitless variety of products for use in a wide range of applications and industries.
PTFE - Exceptional material properties
- Temperature resistant from -200° C to +270° C
- Extremely media resistant
- Completely anti-adhesive
- Non-flammable, self-extinguishing
- Electrically highly insulating
Virginal PTFE - Plastic in its purest form
In 1938, the chemist Roy Plunkett discovered this polymer made of fluorine and carbon, which has all the properties described, by complete accident. Due to its excellent chemical resistance and high temperature resistance, PTFE has developed into a sought-after high-performance material.
TFM® from Dyneon - Modified PTFE for optimised processing
Second generation PTFE is reconfigured by the addition of modifiers, which virtually retains its material properties. Shorter molecule chains create a tighter and denser molecular network. The advantage of this modified, more diffusion-tight variant lies above all in the better weldability of the material.
PTFE compounds - For tailor-made properties
The targeted admixture of fillers enables the precise matching of the desired PTFE properties. For example, glass fibre improves compressive strength, carbon or carbon fibre optimises abrasion resistance and dry running properties. Beichler + Grünenwald has the know-how to produce and process compounds using mineral or organic fillers for specific customer requirements.
